I got this as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend who has been on a bit of a Wim Wenders kick and he loved it. The pictures are really beautiful and Wenders definitely has an interesting point of view. I would say the only thing that I was disappointed in (he hasn't found any fault with it) is that I thought it would be more of a diary that focused on pictures and stories from so many of his road movies (like Paris, Texas), but instead it seems to be just about everything. Not that that's bad, I guess my expectations were a little different is all.

this book is great. Wim Wender's opening prose about the art of photography is worth the price alone. delve into the book further, and you are gifted with some really great travel documentary photographs with short prose describing the images. i like this, as a photographer, i am often very interested to hear the story behind the photographs. the art of the slide show presentation is a lost art in america yet this book somehow evokes that type of discovery and storytelling.featuring both color and black and white photographs, and many of them done as a series, the book's paper texture and image reproduction is top notch.the physical size of the book is perfect-it's easy to pick up and read or carry with you, and the images are easy to view.in many ways, this book seems very cinematic. being a film director, Wender's sees each still image as the first frame of a movie and it shows.

A wonderful, if not esoteric, literary and cinematic journey. Recommended.

In "Once" the beautifull and incredibly original Wenders's pictures are even more emotional thanks to the short stories describing the situation around the pictures sometimes in a very poetic way. The book is beautiful, maybe it would be more valuable with wider pages. Anyway, it's great !

I have never seen a book quite like this. The dog on the cover leads the way to a magical trip from the chaos of early 1990s Russia to the great American southwest. The photos of the motel reception I can relate to after visiting a similar one in Austin, Texas. The photos and brief prose are so full of compassion and empathy.

Beutiful, delicate and atmospheric. Win Weders is so sensitive in his pictures and text as well.

Usually, accounts of Hitler start with WWI and his subsequent rise to power in Munich. And usually, histories of Vienna in the early part of this century focus on the Secession, on Freud, on Viktor Adler. But in her carefully argued and smartly written book, Hamann (The Reluctant Empress) creates a portrait that shows the evolution of a far different city, one that for five years, between 1908 and 1913, shaped one young provincial. This is a Vienna of poor laborers who live in men's hostels and are the willing fodder of Social Democrats and Pan-Germans alike. Waves of immigrants (among them Jews fleeing Russian pogroms) and the introduction of equal suffrage in 1906 gave rise to a virulent crop of chauvinistic German politicians and theoreticians who shaped Hitler's worldview, from his racism to his use of "Fuhrer" and "Heil," both adopted from Pan-German activist Georg Schonerer. Unlike many biographers, Hamann finds the roots of Hitler's anti-Semitism here, rather than in run-ins with Jewish professors at the Academy of Visual Arts (there were none), a Jewish grandfather (the evidence, she convincingly argues, is lacking) or a syphilitic Jewish prostitute (Hitler was inordinately afraid of both infection and women). Hamann also traces other crucial aspects of Hitler's development to his time in Vienna: his fascination with the mechanics of theater and the political symbolism of architecture, and his hatred of parliamentarianism. Hamann's deep knowledge of Vienna and her skeptical approach to previous sources results in a double-sided portrait that will help readers understand both the Dual Monarchy and WWI and the Third Reich and WWII. This is an excellent book on Fascia and Yoga --I'm a 200, 300, and 500-hour level teacher trainer and am using this in my current 300-hour level training. She is extremely knowledgeable about both yoga and the fascia, and presents her information in a clear and interesting way. She brings up many relevant points indicating a solid understanding of both yoga and the fascia. I've been studying yoga for over 30 years, am a certified bodyworker with years of experience working with fascia, and she has done an excellent job presenting this body of work.There are some other books out there on yoga and the fascia (--for example --Myofascial Yoga by Kristie Bender Segarra, which is a complete waste of money and embarrassingly incomplete and patently incorrect in many ways. Save yourself some serious aggravation and don't bother with that one!) --THIS book; however, is top-notch.It is worth every dime and minute of your time! It is well-written and a superlative piece of work.

I've been coveting this book for a long time and finally decided to purchase it. I am a KMI practitioner as is the author and I really appreciate her uniting the understanding of fascia and Anatomy Trains into a Yoga book. Photos are wonderful. This is a fantastic resource for yogis, yoga instructors and bodyworkers of all sorts. A must for your library.

It has a lot of useful info. I like the vocabulary terms to expand my usage and skill. Sometimes the writing seems to get a bit too flowery for me but all in all she gets some good concepts across.

Exceptional book. A must read for anyone in the movement therapy field or anyone owning a body who wishes to understand how we move relative to our fascial architecture. The detail, drawings, and sources of information make this book a densely packed manual for human movement. Ms Avison speaks from science, and yet is able to tell a story so one can apply the information. Generous and wise in the telling.

The approach adopted for defining design follows that developed by the SEED (Sharing Experience in Engineering Design) programme where design is viewed as "the total activity necessary to provide a product or process to meet a market need." Where standard components are available from manufacturers, the steps necessary for their specification and selection are developed.

The framework used within the text has been to provide descriptive and illustrative information to introduce principles and individual components and to expose the reader to the detailed methods and calculations necessary to specify and design or select a component. To provide the reader with sufficient information to develop the necessary skills to repeat calculations and selection processes, detailed examples and worked solutions are supplied throughout the text.

This book is principally a Year/Level 1 and 2 undergraduate text. Pre-requisite skills include some year one undergraduate mathematics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer, principles of materials, statics and dynamics. However, as the subjects are introduced in a descriptive and illustrative format and as full worked solutions are provided, it is possible for readers without this formal level of education to benefit from this book. The text is specifically aimed at automotive and mechanical engineering degree programmes and would be of value for modules in design, mechanical engineering design, design and manufacture, design studies, automotive power-train and transmission and tribology, as well as modules and project work incorporating a design element requiring knowledge about any of the content described.

The aims and objectives described are achieved by a short introductory chapters on total design, mechanical engineering and machine elements followed by ten chapters on machine elements covering: bearings, shafts, gears, seals, chain and belt drives, clutches and brakes, springs, fasteners and miscellaneous mechanisms. Chapters 14 and 15 introduce casings and enclosures and sensors and actuators, key features of most forms of mechanical technology. The subject of tolerancing from a component to a process level is introduced in Chapter 16. The last chapter serves to present an integrated design using the detailed design aspects covered within the book. The design methods where appropriate are developed to national and international standards (e.g. ANSI, ASME, AGMA, BSI, DIN, ISO).

The first edition of this text introduced a variety of machine elements as building blocks with which design of mechanical devices can be undertaken. The approach adopted of introducing and explaining the aspects of technology by means of text, photographs, diagrams and step-by-step procedures has been maintained. A number of important machine elements have been included in the new edition, fasteners, springs, sensors and actuators. They are included here. Chapters on total design, the scope of mechanical engineering and machine elements have been completely revised and updated. New chapters are included on casings and enclosures and miscellaneous mechanisms and the final chapter has been rewritten to provide an integrated approach. Multiple worked examples and completed solutions are included.

Peter Childs is Professorial Lead of Engineering Design at Imperial College London, and was previously director of the Rolls-Royce supported University Technology Centre for Aero-Thermal Systems and a professor at the University of Sussex. He has spent the last 20 years actively involved in industrial research and development, with projects including work for Ford, Rolls-Royce plc, Siemens, Alstom, DaimlerChrysler and Volvo. Each contributed chapter considers the practical application of the topic through case studies, experiments, empirical validation, or systematic comparisons with other approaches already in practice. About the Author

Ivan Mistrik is a computer scientist who is interested in system and software engineering (SE/SWE) and in system and software architecture (SA/SWA), in particular: life cycle system/software engineering, requirements engineering, relating software requirements and architectures, knowledge management in software development, rationale-based software development, aligning enterprise/system/software architectures, and collaborative system/software engineering. He has more than forty yearsâ€™ experience in the field of computer systems engineering as an information systems developer, R&D leader, SE/SA research analyst, educator in computer sciences, and ICT management consultant. In the past 40 years, he has been primarily working at various R&D institutions and has done consulting on a variety of large international projects sponsored by ESA, EU, NASA, NATO, and UN. He has also taught university-level computer sciences courses in software engineering, software architecture, distributed information systems, and human-computer interaction. He is the author or co-author of more than 80 articles and papers in international journals, conferences, books and workshops, most recently a chapter Capture of Software Requirements and Rationale through Collaborative Software Development, a paper Knowledge Management in the Global Software Engineering Environment, and a paper Architectural Knowledge Management in Global Software Development. He has written a number of editorials and prefaces, most recently for the book on Aligning Enterprise, System, and Software Architecture and the book on Agile Software Architecture. He has also written over 120 technical reports and presented over 70 scientific/technical talks. He was the lead-editor of the Expert Systems Special Issue on Knowledge Engineering in Global Software Development and the co-editor of the JSS Special Issue on the Future of Software Engineering for/in the Cloud, both published in 2013. He was the co-editor for the book on Agile Software Architecture published in 2013. Currently, he is the lead-editor for the book on Economics-driven Software Architecture to be published in 2014.Richard M Soley is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of OMG Â®. As Chairman and CEO of OMG, Dr. Soley is responsible for the vision and direction of the world's largest consortium of its type. Dr. Soley joined the nascent OMG as Technical Director in 1989, leading the development of OMG's world-leading standardization process and the original CORBAÂ® specification. In 1996, he led the effort to move into vertical market standards (starting with healthcare, finance, telecommunications and manufacturing) and modeling, leading first to the Unified Modeling Language TM (UMLÂ®) and later the Model Driven ArchitectureÂ® (MDAÂ®).Nour Ali is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton since December, 2012. She holds a PhD in Software Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia-Spain for her work in Ambients in Aspect-Oriented Software Architecture. Her research area encompasses service oriented architecture, software architecture, model driven engineering and mobile systems. In 2014, the University of Brighton have awarded her a Rising Stars project in Service Oriented Architecture Recovery and Consistency.John Grundy is Professor of Software Engineering, Dean of Software and Electrical Engineering and Director of the Centre for Computing and Engineering Software Systems at the Swinburne University of Technology. Previously he was Professor of Software Engineering and Head of Department for Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He is Assistant Editor in Chief of IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, and Associate Editor for IEEE Software and Automated Software Engineering. He is on the Steering Committee of the IEEE/ACM International Conference on Automated Software Engineering.Bedir Tekinerdogan is a full professor and chair of the Information Technology group at Wageningen University in The Netherlands. He received his MSc degree (1994) and a PhD degree (2000) in Computer Science, both from the University of Twente, The Netherlands. From 2003 until 2008 he was a faculty member at University of Twente, after which he joined Bilkent University until 2015. He has more than 20 years of experience in software engineering research and education. His main research includes the engineering of smart software-intensive systems. In particular, he has focused on and is interested in software architecture design, software product line engineering, model-driven development, parallel computing, cloud computing and system of systems engineering. He has been active in dozens of national and international research and consultancy projects with various large software companies whereby he has worked as a principal researcher and leading software/system architect. He has reviewed more than 100 national and international software research and development projects and is a regular reviewer for around 20 international journals. He graduated around 40 MSc students and supervised more than 10 PhD students. He has developed and taught more than 15 different academic software engineering courses and has provided software engineering courses to more than 50 companies in The Netherlands, Germany and Turkey.
